My control has basically disappeared at the moment, hypos and highs (but mainly hypos) and whatever I do works for a week or so then it all goes to pot again. I had 44 hypos in May alone and it is affecting my brain, my memory is shot at the moment ? I keep forgetting what I am saying in the middle of sentences ? and it is worrying me. My hypo awareness now kicks in in the low 2?s so a bit later than I would like! 😱 I have tested my basal and this is fine now at 14 units of Lantus before bed, holds me steady during the night, although I haven?t been able to test the whole day yet.

I need help and need to speak to my DSN but at the same time I don?t want to make too much of an issue out of the hypos as I can?t risk having my driving licence revoked. I am very careful when driving, test before I go every time and during if it is longer than 30 min drive (which is very rarely is). My stomach has been playing up so I know the (probable) gastroparesis may be playing a part and I am taking my medication for that.

Someone said to me this morning ?you must get fed up with it?? ? right now I am so fed up with it! :(

Any thoughts/ideas appreciated.

Newbs I am so sorry that you are dealing with these problems. Have you actually seen a diabetic gastroparesis specialist as they have more suggestions than a GP or diabetic consultant who doesn't specialise in gastroparesis.

Hiya

Sorry to hear about this.

This may be a long shot but do you think the very hot weather (not so much now mind you) also contributed to some of the hypos.

I know I can only speak about the children I know of but some were badly affected with hypos all over the place and even though their parents pulled back on the insulin some have found afterwards that they haven't needed to increase it all again.

Just a thought.

No, I haven't seen a diabetic gastroparesis specialist - my GP is reluctant to send me for any more tests and says to continue as I am if the meds are working! I don't actually know if I have gastroparesis for sure although my endoscopy apparently identified a motility problem.

Hi Adrienne. Yes I do think the heat contributed to some of the hypos so has probably made the situation even worse. Such a pain! 🙂

Newbs that must be very frustrating for you. With my gastroparesis even if my stomach feels ok it can still play havoc with my blood sugars. My GP was quite dismissive - it was my diabetic consultant who ordered the test that I needed and then referred my to a diabetic gastroparesis specialist in another county.

Thanks Amanda. I will speak to my DSN and try to see/speak with my consultant sooner than planned to see if he is of more use.
