Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hya my name is Donna

I am a new person to this site. I have just read your story. Which was very interesting and touching.
I have been told only a year ago that I have diabetes.
I am in denial even though i think i am controling it and on top of it.
I am not. I feel like I have a dirty problem. Which is a terrible thing to think and feel.
I dont really understand this problem this diabetes thing!!!
I am very angry and i have never been very good at diets and exercise. As i have really been over weight before. I am now.
I find it so difficult, to manage, and it scares me.
I do attend all my appointments and i have read about it, but for some reason i cant take it in.
I really think i need some one with the same problem and who knows how to handle it lives with me until i have a gripe of the situation ha ha .
Any tips you may have to help me get this into my head i would truely welcome
Many Thanks Donna

Hi Donna, welcome to the forum 🙂 I moved your post so that more people would see it. I'm sorry to hear that you are finding your diabetes difficult to manage. Are you on any medication and do you test your blood sugars? One of the best ways to get to grips with it is to ask the good people here if there is anything that confuses or troubles you - we all have different experiences, but sharing them often helps us to understand our own diabetes much better. There is a lot of good reading in our Useful links thread, so check that out, plus many people find the book : Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker to be a very good introduction.

I look forward to hearing more from you and hopefully we can help you to start managing things better 🙂

Hi Donna. Welcome 🙂

Your denial is by no means unusual. We all 'grieve' in a real sense for our loss of freedom/carefree lifestyle/health/etc and anger and sadness are all normal emotions associated with that.

Hopefully you can find motivation from posting on here and reading other threads and come through your anger to gain control.

It's sad that teh media often portray diabetes as something to be ashamed of and a self-inflicted ailment. It's nothing of the sort.

Don't feel you need to hide it or apologise for it.

Rob
