Relationship to Diabetes

Our 13 year old dog has been diagnosed with lower spinal problems and was due to have an MRI yesterday following xrays showing spinal stenosis - exactly the problem I had last year when I had spinal surgery. However blood tests taken showed she had extremely low blood sugar (2.1) and had been at a level in the 2s for the last 2 tests over the past 3 weeks. However although not diabetic she has gone to the opposite extreme and has now had a CT scan as it could be she has a pancreatic insulinoma which produces excess unsulin. Shame I cannot share her excess!! Full diagnosis and likely treatment will be given when we return Friday. Luckily the vet referral service we had been sent to for the original scan had ct scanner on premises and are also specialists in oncology so they knew an MRI could have exacerbated a tumour hence the change to ct. Her spine problems have responded extremely well to pain killers and added to this I now have glucose boost to give her with her feed.

I'm glad to hear that she is responding well to the treatment - hopefully, she is also able to enjoy her 'treats'! 🙂 How interesting that she should have the same problem you had!

So glad that she is feeling better and responding to her treatment. I'd be lost without my two dogs.

Worst possible news. She does have canine insulinoma and it is inoperable and has spread to liver, lungs and abdomen. So new meds to keep control of pain and expectancy of 3-4 months. Have decided that 3 jelly babies = one ball game and blow what it does to her legs. She hasn't even seen here ball for 5 weeks.

Oh, I am so sorry. I am sure that you will give her the best time that she can possibly have, I feel for you.

Horrific responsibility owning a pet really bearing in mind in circumstances like this - the owner is the one that is actually responsible for making the right decision at the right time.

I echo what Michael said and let these be as happy memories as they can be - sad ones of course though they are.

Hugs for you and jelly babies/balls/bones/chasing rabbits to doggy.

So sorry to hear your news @pippaandben. Hope you can build some more happy, bittersweet memories over next few months.

I am so sorry. I hope you can make some extra happy memories with her.

Sorry about your dog. :(
