Had to go the dentist last week with a badly broken tooth.Only a stump left really.Suggested doing root canal and crown which he started last week.To cut a long story short,i had to have it out today.Took 15 agonising minutes.I have been on anti-biotics and pain killers for a week now.Virtually eating them at times.Do these sort of things push up sugars.

I think pain can put your BGs up, infections certainly can, though mine do occasionally go lower than normal. I hope you're pain and infection free soon.

Yup - it's the pain and infection that caused the higher BG - not what you had to take to get rid of it. You will still suffer for a bit even after the extraction - cos even without pain beforehand - a tooth extraction on its own is a trauma to your body, not quite as bad as being hit by an express train but certainly a local bus.

i take morphine and it lowers my BG.

Pain (or anything that causes stress) or an infection can cause BGs to go up. As you saw the dentist and had some pain that is more likely to do it than the pain killers. If you are uncertain talk to the pharmacist.

Interesting I get sometimes get really bad headaches at night and I put the higher readings in the morning after down to the painkillers when it seems likely to be the actual pain that causes the rise
