Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I am a type 1 diabetic.I recently have developed skin cancer.I have raised liver function levels and my diabetic control is wiered. the doctors don't know if I have an underlying infection, liver scan o.k. has anyone else had the above.my gut feeling is that this skin cancer is causing my raised liver functions tests and exhaustion.doctors appear blank when i suggest I was fine before this.
would appreciate any advice
THANKS VAL

Hi Val,

I read somewhere, I think in Balance, perhaps the previous edition to this, that someone had diabetes and his control was terrible, then he was diagnosed with Cancer and once diagnosed and treated his diabetese became under better control.

Sorry to be so vague, my memory is shot for detail, but worth looking back, there could well be something between the two conditions.

I will you well and a speedy recovery.

David

Skin Cancer And Diabetic Control

Thanks David I Will Check The Old Balance Copies. Val

Stress and other emotions have a huge effect on my control. Do you think it could be the shock/stress associated with your diagnosis that is causing this?

Best of luck Val, hope you feel better soon.

think it was in the letter section of balance

Letter re cancer diagnosis. The one I think you are recalling is on page 9 of the Nov-Dec 2008 Balance under the heading "Cancer warning" and was from Brenda Phillips about her husband. I clearly recall this as I was just diagnosed with diabetes, had odd feelings in my stomach and had adverse liver function tests and very raised BS levels - and it scared me quite badly because I was feeling very vulnerable - although the points she made were extremely valid to her own experience.

Trust you will quickly get to the bottom of your own problems and will be feeling much more in control of things soon. All best wishes,
