So I usually have lunch around 11:30-12 then a cuppy about half 2 thing is I've been fancying a scone with clotted cream in the afternoon, do any of you guys do this, I've never bolused apart from meal times x

Sorry you didn't get an answer earlier. Yes, it's very normal to bolus for any significant intake of carbohydrate, whether meal or snack. You might need slightly less insulinif the gap between jabsis less than usual gap between meals.

I've never snacked over 10g to try as until last week I had no idea I wasn't limited to how much NovoRapid I could take in a day, it's great to know that if I fancy a wee afternoon treat with my cuppy as been getting down with others eating cakes in front of me and me being scared to even touch cake, I also have an Aviva Expert so would test before it and put the carbs in to see what it says x

It's one of the 'advantages' of being a type 1 on MDI😉

ALL my life before I got a pump I did not have anything apart from meals & injection. Quite often I did not have that bag of crisps etc. Now with a pump its easier 🙂

Scones probably wont be a good choice though as massive in carbs.

Well you wouldn't have more than the occasional one, Sue. After all - that's a treat, not a regular occurrence, isn't it!

And just have the rest of the cream if there's any left, with strawbs or rasps or S/F jelly another day!

Every "treat" is a bit higher in carbs though I really feel like I'm missing out, being diagnosed a week before my birthday, I didn't even get to have a treat for that, my first real treat will be my pudding on Christmas day and I'm afraid in the future I won't be living all year without a piece of cake etc x

No - you certainly don't have a future without cake to look forward to! However cake isn't one of the things that becomes one of the main, daily items in anyone's diet!

No thank goodness as can't stand them 🙂

The scone, the jam. or the clotted cream? Me and Kaylz can eat your share then!

Hi Kaylz
If you fancy a scone there's no reason you can't have one and bolus for it, in fact I think it's important from a psychological point of view (no really!) because you don't feel truly in control until you can deal with the extra treat. Careful with the timing, rapid insulin has about 4 hours of action but if you have the expert meter I think that takes into account the insulin already on board, insulin crossover or stacking can be tricky though so just be aware. You might be better trying a lower carb treat first to practice your skills, or maybe half a scone? Not suggesting you should limit your carbs here by the way I'm just thinking a smaller jab of insulin is easier to control and the hypo that might ensue would be lessened. Plus you get to practice your scone eating 🙂 over a few days.

I'm not pro scone, I'm with Sue on the food of the devil front, but I do love a good choux bun. Weirdly I did used to like the scoffin, a weird hybrid scone/muffin (the bread variety not the American muffin cake variety). This is especially weird given that I hate dried fruit, muffins of the bread variety and scones, yet the unearthly squishing of those items into one Frankenstein like creation tickled my taste buds.....I wonder what happened to the scoffin? That's just reminded me of a very confusing trip to New York and a slightly surreal breakfast conversation, where I was attempting to get some sort of bread other than the white sliced variety, and the waitress was offering me muffins, I was being very Brit like and politely trying to explain that I wanted bread not a cake. Up here in the Northwest we call bread rolls muffins, but on my travels in the UK I'd realised that the term muffin was alien or referred to one of those hideous breakfast muffin things (bread) or an American muffin of the cake variety, so I'd taken to using the geographically neutral term of "bread roll". The waitress was basically befuddled by my eccentric English twittering about bread and eventually gave up and came back with a muffin, which turned out to be a proper homemade Lancashire oven bottom muffin...surreal in the extreme!

Oops massive tangent, enjoy the scone 🙂

Well guys it's Christmas Eve tomorrow so I'm going to bite the bullet and enjoy a belgian chocolate eclair or choux bun with my afternoon cuppy I don't care if it involves an extra jab it's time to have fun 🙂 come on guys who's with me 🙂 x

Good choice: of all cakes, eclairs are one of the lowest carb choices, and they are very nice!

I'm making profiteroles for one of the puds over the holiday period. Dark chocolate sauce, unsweetened whipped cream filling, one of the lowest carb desserts on offer!
