I finally got one of these yesterday......oooh I do like it!

Couple of queries though....what is the "meal rise" setting actually for, what does it help calculate? I am not sure what to have it set as.....my nurse never really helped me with that bit, it's default is 2.8mmol...

Also what is the "offset time" setting?

I am trying to work through the booklet but am very tired this morning and having trouble working it out - I have my clinic appt tomorrow anyway so can ask there but thought someone here might be able to shed more light for me!

I haven't worked out the meal rise either really but I expect it's the rise it can expect at X amount of time after a meal. So if you test at say, after 2 hrs (or whatever) of telling it that it was a mealtime and you were just about to consume Y grams of carb, then unless it was shedloads more than a 2.8 rise it wouldn't try and tell you to correct with insulin? But would wait until next pre-meal test. But the fact is, I dunno and that doesn't seem to have affected what it tells me to do and what I actually do. So mine is still on 'factory' setting of 2.8 too Laura!

The 'Offset time' I do know - it is the length of time your fast-acting insulin lasts in your body. So if it's over and completely done with and won't reduce your BG in the absulute slightest after 4 hrs, then 4 hrs it is. If it's 5 or 3 hrs etc, change it. Some people eg Patti for instance, find Humalog has a kick in it's tail at 5 hours post jab.

I think that's the 'acting time' trophywench. The time the insulin lasts.🙂

The 'offset time' is, as far as I know, the time lag until the fast acting starts to work. It's set to a minimum of 45 mins which is a bit long to me but I tend to ignore that bit.

Thank you both, think I have it sussed.

My DSN said the meal rise thing is for people who need to test post meal (usually pg women) so it's not really important as it's not something they tell us to do, but at least I know it's there if I want to use it.

Next question is......how on earth do I download the data? There's nothing in the box...no cable or anything? The Accu chek website is beyond awful and sheds not much light, do I need some Smart Pix thing? I wanted to be able to get fancy graphs and things to be able to print for my appts!

I'd give their helpline a call, they usually send out the software and any connecting cables required for free 🙂

Yep I will do tomorrow, or Monday if it's not open tomorrow.

They make it a bit awkward don't they!

The software's great once you get your sticky paws on it Laura.

You plug a connector into a USB port and in the 'My Data' menu there's a 'Download Data' option. You put the meter and the connector in close proximity and press the appropriate button on the meter and off you go. There's a nice little video to show you how, and once downloaded, if you can't connect the site asks if you want to access more help and runs through it again with you.

Only thing is not sure if it's free or not, it is for pumpers but dunno if you have the 'Expert'.
