Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I am a type II and my morning readings are always high, even though my last meal is around 5/6 p.m. I have tried having porridge last thing at night, but nothing helps.
Also, has anyone ever tried a juicer to juice vegetables. New to this I find the drinks wonderful (things like celery and peppers), but I wonder if I am doing the right thing. I dont use vegetables like carrots with a high sugar content.
I am quite desperate to get myself on track.

Hi Herford, welcome to the forum!🙂

It sounds like you may be experiencing something called 'Dawn Phenomenon'. This occurs when the liver puts out extra glucose into the blood in the morning to prepare the body for waking and the demands of a new day. As everyone with diabetes reacts differently, it's difficult to give one fireproof solution to this. If your waking levels are not too high, you might like to try not eating anything after your main evening meal the night before. This will lower your overnight levels so the morning rise won't have such a great effect as it's starting from a lower level. Some people also suggest a snack of fat or protein - cheese, perhaps - helps. You should also make sure you eat breakfast as this can have the effect of 'switching off' the morning rise caused by the liver.

Hope this helps!🙂

good morning herford and a warm welcome northener has said it all really but hello anyway, mine are the exact same i can be up to 12 in morning or even 15 then night time about 7-8 x

Dear Northener,
Thank you so much for replying to my query. I hae tried everything, but nothing works. This afternoon before lunch I was 5.2 and I am being extra good at the moment otherwise it is going to be insulin. I cant eat vegetables, so am juicing them and it appears to be doing good, so lets hope so.
Again, thank you.

Hello and Welcome to the forum 🙂🙂 Good luck with the levels 🙂

your breaking down the structure of vegis and fruits so they wont be doing the job they are made for like mashed potatoes all the suger is released fast , stop juicing and start chewing

Thank you, Grandad1O. I realise that there would be a difference with juicing and eating whole. But as I cannot eat many vegetables, I thought the juicing (such as celery) was a good way of having vegetables in my diet.
But thank you for your advice. New to juicing and am only giving it a try. Feeling full on vegetable juice may help me to lose weight, seems to be working already.

Herford, well done on finding a way to get veggies down. My query is whether, like fruit juice, no matter how much veg juice you have the does it count solely as one portion of fruit/veg per day?

Sounds like a really good idea! It's obviously doing you good, so well done for thinking of it! Might give it a try myself...when I can find the blender! 😱
