Last fall, Jim Frans of Shepherdsville was stunned when a doctor asked him how long he?d been prediabetic.
?Alarm bells started going off,? said Frans, 61, who was unaware that he had the condition that increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.
?Nobody had ever said anything about it,? he said. ?It was kind of a wake-up call.?
After searching around for help, Frans found the YMCA?s Diabetes Prevention Program, which teaches participants how to reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes by making better lifestyle choices, such as eating smaller portions.
