Britain’s “slavish adherence” to EU working-time rules is damaging patients care, senior doctors have warned, in a letter to The Daily Telegraph.
The Royal College of Surgeons raised their concerns after the new head of the NHS yesterday said that too much hospital care had been “dictated” by decisions by the European Court of Justice, interpreting EU rules on doctors’ working hours.
Professor Norman Williams, President of the Royal College yesterday said that that patients were suffering worse care and doctors getting less training, because of the rules, and the way they have been interpreted by the NHS.
