Hi All

I've got a doctors appointment booked for this afternoon. I've got an ingrown toenail on my big toe which has infected the side of my toe i've been using tcp on it for a couple of weeks but it won't heel it keeps scabbing over then opening up again. I am hoping that they can suggest something to make it heal, I've managed to get the nail cut right back but it still hasn't made a difference. It's so painful to walk on sometimes and because I go swimming 3 times a week that doesn't help it to heal.

I'm also going to ask whether I can be put back on the pill because of heavy periods I was wondering if anyone can tell me what pill diabetic ladies are allowed to take?

Thank you.

Hope you get on OK at the doctors. When this happened to a friend, she was given antibiotics to clear the infection and then the toe nail was removed. You may not need the nail removed just trimmed, but at least you are getting it looked at which can only be good.

Thank you. Yes my husband told me I may need antibiotics. My dad had problems with an ingrown toenail too and he had his surgically removed I hope that doesn't happen to me too but that is worst case scenario x

Hopefully it wont be a worst case scenario, but at least you know it might happen.

I too had an ingrowing toe nail and the Doctor did a ring injection that was supposed too kill the pain...and let me tell you it didn't! Then he cut a v shape out of my nail. It didn't work and eventually I got rid of it by a few painless visits to a lovely chiropodist.

As regards the pill I am on Dianette and that works just dandy.

hi well i had my toe nail off a few years ago and i have just had the othe one off last year both on big toes and it was fine as long as you keep it covered for a few weeks and go back to see them. It was the best thing Ihad done no problums now toes are great😎

I had an ingrown toenail a couple of years ago. The podiatrist at my diabetic clinic took the corner off and hey presto, all was fine! Once it's seen by a specialist you'll be sorted.

On the pill thing: I've tried several pills and none of them agreed with me. However, the lesser of the evils was Cilest - I managed to take this for about a year before I started having problems. My doc has strongly recommended the Mirena coil - apparently this releases the same hormones as the pill, but in a much smaller quantity. For a couple of reasons I've decided against this, but you might want to consider this too?

Good luck with the appointment!

Thank you all for your help.

My doctor is referring me to a podiatrist he said that i'll have a small operation on the toe to remove the side of the nail and the skin around it so it can't grow back into the skin again :( I'll be glad once it's done but I'm very nervous about having it done.

I've been given the cerazette pill to try he said that after 6-9 months I should have no periods at all which I'm looking forward to so i'll see if it works for me 🙂 x
