Hi there, I am new to this site and am looking for a little advise. On more than one occasion I have been advised that my blood sugar level is 7.5. This was once in hospital after a minor operation, thus, a fasting level. On another occasion it was a paramedic who advised again at 7.5. I have mentioned this to my Doctor and have been told it is not a concern, but I am concerned. Should I be????? Any advise much appreciated.
Susie🙂

Susie hi and welcome the ideal numbers should run between 4 and 7. I'd not be overly concerned I was getting 7.5 personally but for some it's not ideal

If you have any niggling doubts about your blood glucose levels, then cutting down on carbohydrates might help - if you feel better with less bread, potato and sugary stuff in your diet then it is a win win situation.

Hi Sussie. Have you actually been diagnosed diabetic? What type? What's your current situation?
Guessing? Are you talking about a fingerprick & drop of blood on a strip in a hand held machine. I wouldn't be bothered with a one off reading of 7.5 in normal conditions.
It's also possibly an operations can raise you BG, as can several medical conditions. So in the situations you've mentioned I'd say it's nothing to take any notice of.

Good advise, thank you.

I haven't been diagnosed as diabetic, but have on a number of occasions been advised on both strips and blood tests that I have a reading of 7.5 so fairly consistent. I have a Doc's appointment soon and will raise the question again. Thanks for advise.

Hi Susie T,
You should only be concerned if:
(1) you have one or more members of your family with diabetes.
(2) you are overweight
(1) and you are inactive and your diet is not healthy.
But, just being aware that you may be at risk of diabetes is a positive thing, since you will do whatever you can to prevent it. I wish you all the best 🙂

Hi. Don't use fasting blood test results due to overnight liver dump effects. Check 2 hours after a typical meal. If below 8.5mm you are probably OK.
