Do you think I should get my gran to a doctor ASAP?

My gran had a routine check and they found her BP raised. They have now given her a BP machine to test herself for 2 weeks.

She’s getting High readings with ones like 154/110 and 184/99.

She said she will give it the two weeks and hand the form in she has had to record on.

I’m thinking she should be getting spoke to sooner rather than later?

How is she testing? It’s not uncommon to get high readings on a first test and my gp suggested doing 3 readings 5 minutes apart and taking the best result. It’s worth recording her pulse rate too. She should be resting for 15 minutes before testing. They’re high and if that’s a standard result she will need some checks and meds but they’re not urgent unless she has other obvious symptoms.

I’d phone her GP and ask for advice, reading out a few of those readings @MarkGeordie in the next day or two.

No need for urgency. As long as she is now on the path to getting seen. Collecting that data is a good start.

My wife is in exactly the same situation with similar results. They are trying to get her BP medication right. She's had this problem for at least a year but of course in this day and age, if it's not covid it apparently doesn't count. 🙄 (I honestly don't know how we are ever going to recover from this disruption - backlogs everywhere).
She's due to see someone next month.

When I got a reading of around 186/126 the GP surgery said I needed an urgent appointment and said the first one was in 2 weeks time!!! I phoned 111 for advice and they got me to an emergency doctor that night at which point my BP was 205/146 and I was rushed to hospital, I was seen by a stroke consultant who was amazing and had agreed to see me quickly due to high reading and risk. If your gran consistently gets readings of 184 then contact GP if she has a good GP practice, otherwise phone 111 who will advise.
I had the worst headache ever when my BP was so high but not everyone has symptoms like this.

Hi. I suggest doing as @Inka suggested .

Sorry for lack of replies.

I believe she was told to just take 3 readings at various times throughout the day and try and alter the timings so there not all at the same specific times.

I don’t live near her so it’s hard to offer too much help but I did suggest last night on the telephone that she speaks with her surgery so I’m going to call her again and check she is doing that.

I think I just get worried because my grandad had a heart attack out of the blue a few years back.

They usually do suggest you do 3 consecutive readings, taking the average each time you do it (although my surgery wants all of the 3 so they can see the variation I suppose). Also to take it 3 times a day so they can see any pattern.
180/120 would be a level to cause concern especially if there are any symptoms.
I would definitely suggest she speaks to the GP now rather than wait 2 weeks so I hope she has done what you have suggested.
I would expect that they would want to give her some medication.

Well the follow up is. Don’t be too concerned they say. They have to do home monitoring before a decision is made, because there are no other associated symptoms and that’s what the NICE guidelines say for hypertension.
