I was diagnosed in September 2020 with type 1 diabetes with a lovely 149!
I haven’t heard a sausage from anyone for months now so do I need to request a HbA1c or do they write and let me know?
I have worked so hard for 4 months getting my BG stable and would like to feel the hard work has paid off? I am currently running a 6.7 90 day average! So I am hoping it’s dropped to something in the 90’s at least!
just need a a small gold star or sticker to keep me motivated! Thank you to all of you on here who keep me going with your tips and daily banter! Sara

Did they say when you’re next appointment would be? Mine are normally every 6-12 months with the hospital consultant, so only 4 months since last one would be a bit soon at my hospital.

Hi @SaraKaya I think it depends on the GP. After I was diagnosed in April I had a test in early June, then September and again last week. In your position, I'd phone the surgery and request another test, or ask them when you are likely to be recalled.

Here's a gold star for you, you deserve it!

Have you had any contact with them at all? Do you have a DN you can contact? Ask them about it. Otherwise, look up contact details for the D department & contact them.
Presumably you've been put on insulin. They should be keeping in touch to check how you are going with that.

I believe a number of clinics are running a bit behind at the moment, so that could be impacting you.

In your shoes, I would give your clinic a call and ask if you could have a test done. The worst they can say is "No".

If you don't get anywhere there, you could do a private test for £29, if you think it would really help you. MonitorMyHealth use the NHS labs, at Exeter hospitals to run the tests, so you have no issues there. MMH can be found here: https://monitormyhealth.org.uk/#

It does seem that many routine appointments and follow-ups are being delayed I’m afraid.

Depending on the set-up at your surgery, you may be able to request an appointment for bloods to be drawn, and then get the result electronically. My surgery arranged for me to have HbA1c bloods drawn at the hospital near me as their phlebotomist wasn’t working.

Hope you can manage to get a checkup and some sort of feedback to encourage you to continue your current efforts 🙂

As you are so recently dx with T1, I would have expected your team esp the DSN to have been in close contact with you , mostly by phone as usually much tweaking of insulin is needed.
If you have a contact number or email , then do contact them tomorrow.

Thank you! I had support for the first month and then the DN in my area retired and they haven’t replaced her and they ‘discharged’ me. I have been managing really well but have hit a bit of a ‘this is forever’ realisation so just need to know I am heading in the right direction with things.
Thank you for my gold star @Vonny!
its tough doing it all by remote control.
you have all been really helpful I will ring my surgery and ask if I can have a follow up test. Even if they say no i think £29 is a bargain for a bit of piece of mind so paying for one isn’t so bad.

it’s a very difficult time to be just starting out on your diabetes journey Sara :(

Hope you can arrange a follow-up A1c without too much hassle

What insulin regime have you been put on?

Hello, sorry I missed this reply!
I am on 10 units Abasaglar as my Basal and 2 units of humalog before meals. I bolus for extra carbs if needed but 30g of carbs a meal covers the 2 units. I am still in the honeymoon phase and perhaps wonder if I am LADA as I can sometimes not need insulin if I have little or no carbs or have a long walk, then sometines
Doing everything instinctively at the moment, we are all different with our Diabetes I am beginning to realise!
Tried ringing the DN no reply about getting a blood test awaiting a ring back!
