Hi I’m new to this forum. I have spoken to the receptionist about my sugar level results and she says the reading says normal and nothing to do. My level is 6.1 or 61 as the nurse says. I was put in medication for a couple of months to lower it but it seems to have stayed the same. I’m am in the healthy weight range although near the top end, 5ft 4in 10st 2lb and am 65 years old. I do lots and lots of gardening as we have a very large garden and I do go for walks and exercise by dancing to my Motown music for an hour 2 or 3 times a week. I’ve also cut down on carbs which has helped with my weight loss. Should also say I’m also taking Tamoxifen as a result of breast cancer in 2015.
Any suggestions will be well received!
Thanks x

Hi, Izzywiz and welcome to the forum. I think the first thing you should do is clarify your blood test results. If this was an HbA1c test, then the way of reporting it changed a few years ago, from percentages to mmol/mol, and some surgeries still report in both methods. But 6.1% does not equate to 61. 6.1% is in the non diabetic range, but 61 most certainly is. So please ask her for both the figure and the units used, so you know exactly where you are.

Hi @Izzywizz - Robin beat me to it! Getting the numbers sorted out to know where you are starting from is important in my book.

Thank you, I will ask her when she contacts me, the receptionist said she will get the nurse to ring me. I couldn’t understand why the nurse said my count was normal The receptionist read out the results to me, anyway I will wait for the nurse to contact me. Thanks again.

I don't ask the receptionist at our surgery for medical advice - in fact they aren't allowed to access test results at ours! - only medically trained folk may access them.

Think you should till the nurse rings you and see what she says!

To be fair the receptionist, she was only reading out the results they have on the system, she didn’t give out any advice but did say she would get the nurse to contact me. I thought the nurse should have contacted me anyway!

Agree with the others.
6.1% appears to be around 43 which is a normal result - maybe just tipping into the area where you need to start thinking about making minor changes but normal nonetheless.

Hope you can get a call with the nurse and clear up the confusion @Izzywiz

Well done on the positive changes you have been making, and the weight loss. Your garden sounds lovely, and dancing & music is very good for the soul!

Thank you, I’m going to ask about my Tamoxifen which is a hormone inhibitor as well. I’ve read that when some women are taking the drug after 5 years like me, they start to develop Type 2. Apparently it makes them insulin resistant! I’ve just received a letter to make arrangements to see the nurse for my urine and bloods again. This time I have to avoid having too much meat 12 hours before the appointment!

Hello and welcome. 🙂
