Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2009, but I was carted into my local A&E semi-conscious on New Year's Eve two months ago with a BM of 50 & a PH of 6.7! I don't remember the Saturday (31st) at all & I came round in Basildon Critical Care Unit (ICU) on the afternoon of the Sunday, a wonderful start to the New Year.

I'm advised that I was only hours away from dying, but I know that it was entirely my fault for not managing my diabetes. I was put on IV insulin while in hospital & I'm now having to take it subcutaneously twice a day, not knowing if I'll ever go back to oral medication only or have to stay on insulin.

The NHS absolutely saved my life after I screwed up & I for one truly appreciate it!

Welcome to the forum, Slithy. How are you getting on with twice daily insulin? Are you able to match insulin to food, activity etc?

Don't bash yourself up, Slithy, there's nobody here will judge you. Help and advice is what we do, if you have any questions. 🙂

Welcome to the forum. It's a harsh lesson you learned, but at least you're still around to benefit from it.

Hello and welcome 🙂 glad to hear you are on the mend.

Thanks everyone for the great comments, at the moment I'm still trying to nail the right dosage down, but I think I'm getting there. I'm on the Humulin M3 KwikPen taking 50/40 units and 1 x 25mg Alogliptin daily.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm guessing that you are from the Essex area (Basildon hospital bit gave it away).

I know it well, born in Ockendon, lived in upminster, romford, now in rayleigh.
