Hi All,

I'm a newbie.

I have been experiencing dizzy spells recently, the room is spinning for a few minutes and happens quite frequently. It's quite scary as started over a month ago. I have anxiety, loss of concentration, not sleeping much and become very emotional. I have been diagnosed as having vertigo and prescribed medication, and also to do exercise I have been signed off work for the last 2 weeks and due to go back soon as I can work from home as I need some normality. I will be seeing an ENT specialist next week.

I have type 2 diabetes and I'm perimenopause. I was wondering if anyone has experienced what I have been going through and what did you do. I'm hoping this is short term!

Many thanks

The symptoms you describe sound very much like Meniere disease. A trigger for attacks can be anxiety, though often it is not easy to distinguish cause and effect.
There are medications that can help with the symptoms. At least you are seeing someone fairly promptly.
Many conditions are not helped if blood glucose levels are high so how do you manage your condition.
Welcome to the forum by the way.

Welcome @anon1971! 🙂 I’ve had vertigo and it was awful. I didn’t have lack of concentration, I don’t think. I just felt ill and quite vulnerable as I was scared an attack would come on. I had some tablets prescribed which helped a lot, as did resting. You can buy the tablets over the counter too. They’re called Buccastem.

I had these symptoms before starting HRT last year so definitely discuss with your GP along with the Ent.

I have had similar symptoms on and off for 30 years, and have been diagnosed with recurring labyrinthitis (an ear infection). All I can do is keep my head still and my eyes closed. Normally wears off within a few hours or lasts intermittently for a few days. Glad you will be getting seen by a specialist.

Goodness that sounds awful. Our friend suffered from it once but it did wear off. You do seem to be able to deal with it though. I have had vertigo in the past with a virus and it is awful.

It was tricky when I was working, and once got signed off for 2 weeks. But now I'm retired it doesn't matter, just a couple of easy days at home a couple of times a year.
