It's just occurred to me that we get quite a few requests from students and researchers to help out with their dissertations and questionnaires, but we never get any feedback afterwards. Like "thanks folks for all your help, I was awarded my B/M-whatever, or I'm now Dr so-and-so".

It would be nice to know the outcome sometimes, eh?

It would. I sometimes think that they forget where they have posted their requests.

That is one of the reasons I refuse to fill in the forms for them. Why should I spend my valuable time helping them if they can not be bothered to say thank you?

Mind you if you look at the many posts on this forum where someone has directly asked for help or advice, very few actually bother to say thank you either. 😡

I think that is often true of people who have only stayed around for one or two posts, but there have also been some lovely and heart-warming thank-yous from people who have turned their lives around thanks to the forum's support 🙂 I think that, to some extent, it's just the prevailing web culture where many people just expect answers on demand and probably don't consider the time and effort people have taken to respond. I do find it frustrating sometimes when people have gone to great efforts to respond to someone and then we never hear from them again! Sometimes it's a bit like missing the last half-hour of a film - I want to know what happens! 🙂

I think many people treat forums as though there is an automated Q&A algorithm, not real people answering their queries! But it's always nice to think we may have been able to help someone 🙂
