Well got the diabetic dietitian tomorrow totally dreading it as my levels are still c**p & I'm convinced I'm doing everything wrong I've been diabetic 10 years & finally seeing diabetic nurses etc has always been basically retreat prescriptions & GP not listening. Fingers crossed things get better soon

Don't worry about last 10 years - there's nothing you can do to change them. But, the dietician should be able to help you manage the coming years better. So, best wishes for your appointment tomorrow.

I hope all goes well with the dietician and it helps you out. Your GP sounds as deaf and daft as mine..

When I hear the title Dietician my nerves go on edge.

Maybe it's just the one's I've seen and/or heard about - but so many out there seem to be offering very odd dietary advice based on questionable research from 50 years ago.

I'd be wary of any advice that suggested 'lots' or 'basing every meal on' or 'having to include' carbohydrate at every meal for type 2's. Many are fixated on the idea that 'starchy' carbohydrate is slowly released, when many starches are broken down at least as fast if not faster than table sugar. Some type 2's seem to be able to cope with some low GI carbohydrate at every meal, but many simply can't cope with the levels many dieticians suggest.

To my mind, you need a blood glucose meter and the determination to find out how your body reacts to different meals/foods to make sense of it all really. Anything else is just guesswork.

I really hope your appointment goes well and you get one of the good ones!

Well dietician has me totally confused told watch my carbs then told I'm wrong cutting out potatoes & white bread & wasn't happy that I take too much salt then suggested a course for people newly diagnosed all in all a waste of time IMO

Any dietician telling a diabetic that they shouldn't cut out white bread isn't worth listening to in my book, I'm afraid :( Get the The GL Diet for Dummies - much more relevant to helping you get good control whilst retaining a flexible and enjoyable diet 🙂
