ok thanks. so mike, it isnt dangerous! phew.
I was wondering how else I could be losing any weight.
Thanks guys, So if this is the case, I now don't understand why it is dangerous to be in "dietary ketosis" surely everyone has lost weight at some stage in their lives, just naturally... And some people need to lose weight, so why is it bad? how else are you supposed to lose weight?
Dodger, in regards to another post in the 'low carb' thread, what you know about protein damaging your kidneys? As someone suggested...
Dear Katie,
It's some time since I did any research on this topic, but here's what I found.
The "bad for your kidneys" story is just that. It has been repeated so often that trained professionals believe it. It came about because people with preexisting liver disease have difficulty in dealing with protein. If you have a healthy liver there is no problem.

Dear Mike,
Thanks for starting a new thread. However, from your post I now see that it is futile to debate the issue with you because no matter what I say I perceive that there is no way to change your viewpoint.
Dear Angeleyes,
What does "I get traces daily all by myself " mean?
Would you care to provide me with some evidence to back your statement about Atkins killing people?
Ok firstly what is your childhood tramua and will you please get over it!!!!!!
I get ketones traces daily because I am in pain daily, it pushes my sugars up and as I have Ulcerative Colitis I am always in pain and inflamed so get them all by myself!!!
And a Rachel Huskey died from the Atkins diet in 2000, she was one of the first to die doing the diet so please try to be a little less rude http://www.atkinsdietalert.org/survivors/rachel_huskey.html
I wouldn't have stated it if i didn't know it for a fact OK!!!!
I agree Adrienne this is a support forum and I personally love a good debate , as for people leaving ? I dont think that will happen somehow. The trouble at the moment is that people are giving out veiled insults / negative comments and then when they get feedback they dont like it and say they are leaving . I have had numerous digs and comments about my choice to minimal carb , right down to basically telling me that if i got off my ar** i could eat carbs !! i actually do over 2 hours of aerobics daily plus other stuff so i am far from lazy !! i have always said that it is an individual choice and not suitable for everyone and as you will see if you visit the low/ no carb thread i am always polite and except ALL views even if they are not to my thinking . The point i am making is , if you kick us enough times expect us to kick back on occasion .
I personally think it's great you don't eat carbs and you know I am trying to cut back because of my UC but that doesn't give Dodger the right to be so rude and arrogant to others

Lighter Life is a whole other ball game. Being in ketosis does not mean not eating solids for weeks etc. Being in ketosis means your body is producing ketones which come from the beta cells in your pancreas I believe. Someone else will have to help with this as I have never studied this bit as my daughter does not and can not get ketones (no pancreas).
Lighter Life is a meal replacement and you have only approx 450 calories per day (no carbs at all). You have three soups or shakes and you have to drink over 4 litres of water a day (or is it 2 I can't remember). You get carb withdrawals for a few days, bad bad headaches and my hands shook. This is extreme dieting and the whole group experienced this but it didn't last long. I lost 4 stone in 4 months. My brain could not keep up and I still thought I was fat. I still needed to lose another 2 stone but I cheated once and once you cheat you hit that slipperly path ! I stopped and put on 6 stone !!!!! I still have all that weight to lose plus the 2 stone now. I had to test my urine for ketones every week and they are the same ketone sticks you would use, I needed to be the second or third square along. These diets work for some people but not all. My friend has just done it and completed it and looks great and so far so good its staying off. This is not a diet that a person with diabetes could do in my opinion and I doubt whether they would let you either actually. Your doctor has to give you a medical first off.

Dear angeleyes,
I don't understand how/why you say I am rude and arrogant - please be more specific. It is not my intention to be rude, help me to understand what I have done.
Regards Dodger
Seriously?? You even need to ask?? Well as been told off by admin I am off of here for good, it was lovely to know you Anne-Marie & Steff and those else on here who care about diabetes and how to help people rather than bitch about them, this site has gone down hill very rapidly with people getting rather nasty and there is no need for it at all!
