Type 2 Diabetes and on 5 insulin injections per day plus metformin. Need a diet sheet not GI foods or carbs or figures - just menus please!- thanks - Linda:

Hello Linda, welcome to the forum. The problem with diet sheets is that different foods affect people in different ways so there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. It's a case of trial and error, using the diet guideline books for guidance.

In my case, weight was the major factor with my diabetes, and losing shedloads with a relatively low carb and very low fat diet has worked wonders. Let me know if you want more details, I'm happy to share!

Hi Linda, welcome to the forum 🙂 I agree with LeeLee - you need to determine how different foods affect you. Presumably you are on MDI (aka basal/bolus - a fast-acting insulin with meals and a slow once or twice a day)? In which case I would suggest following a schedule of testing such as that described in Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S . You might want to put details of what you are currently eating in the What did you eat yesterday? thread, where people can make comments or suggestions about possible improvements or substitutions 🙂

Finally, have a look in the Food and Recipes section for some great diabetes-friendly recipes. We can't really tell you what to eat, as we don't know what you like! If your hope is to lose weight as well as improving your blood sugar levels, then it's worth looking into Slimming World or Weight Watchers as many of our members have had good success with those. You can get great support from other members in our Weight Loss section 🙂

Obviously you are on MDI, so the only way to use your insulin correctly is to count the carbs and adjust your insulin to match what you are eating.
