Now thinking wot is the point. i was lucky enuff to be given a bg monitor but only enuf strips to test 3 times a week but now starting to think i wont test at all it just depresses me! Off to crete in just over a week and would normaly be soooo excited even printed of diabetes etiquette sheet for my no it all bro in law(Thanks 4 suggesting that) but i dont even want to go on hols now, my head is spinning, wot if i eat the wrong things etc etc and i have my blood test just aft i get back to see if this diet is working, tho its obviously not!
sorry for letting off steam on here i guess i just like to hide it all from my daughter and friends etc xx

Let off as much steam as you like, we all do it. One o f the things that keeps us all sane is the safety valve of these forums for getting things off our chests. Don't stress too much about the diet, it takes a while to work out what will give you a high and what will keep you on the straight and narrow. I'm sure your diet is healthy and balanced. When we are stressed, even the most unlikely things give us a high!

The test strips are available on prescription, go have a chat to your doctor about more strips and see if the nurse can offer any holiday dietry advice, but most of all relax and enjoy your holiday.

Hi nickie, don't despair! These things can take time - I know I was nearly a year after diagnosis before all my 'systems' seemed to have returned to normal. And 11.7 at 2.5 hours after eating isn't so bad - that would most likely be the peak and come down from there. It's a shame you can't test a bit more whilst you are getting used to how foods affect you - as you say, the occasional 'snapshot' can be disheartening if the reading seems high.

And start looking forward to your holiday - it will do you the world of good!🙂 We all need a bit of a break from time to time, so try not to worry too much about what and what not to eat. Remember that refined carbs are what will make your levels go high, so try and stick to wholemeal where possible, and fruit, plus have plenty to drink.

my o/h reckons i shdnt take the monitor with me on hol, i guess he is fed up with me losing it when i think ive done well and then not getting the results i want! I either let rip at him or cry like a baby!
But if you have quite high results like that would you still eat lunch?

nickie........11.7 is good. Non-Diabetics would bump up that high, the difference being, it would come down very quickly...with Diabetics it dosn't.

Keep the faith Girl😉

My reading was high before lunch, but I had a nice low carb salad for lunch. You still need to eat a certain ammount. If I don't eat, I can't take the tablets. If I take the tablets and not eat, i am being rather friendly withthe loo.

Don't beat yourself up it takes time to get used to things.

When you are feeling OK sit and have a chat to hubby, explain to him how you feel, and allow him to help, or at least help him to understand how you feel.

It is not until you live with something like this, that you understand how others feel. I was diagnosed in 2006. I am having fun learning lots of new things about my slef and about the food I eat.

Relax and enjoy life, we here on the boards are all with you ups and downs too.

I actually feel at my best when i am about 14/15 even though I know its wrong. Trouble with me is I am up and down like a blinky yo-yo. I can see you are worried about your holiday, I am worried about mine. I think it is vital that you take your monitor because if you feel unwell for any reason you can test and if you are hypo you need to know exactly how low you are. Mind you when I am low I always over compensate with the sugar. Will i ever get it right. Your o/h needs to understand that it will make you emotional/irritable and that you can't do anything about it. it is all part of having diabetes. My boyfriend reminds me to test if I am ratty and he is usually right, I am getting low and then he makes me a cuppa and a few biscuits, unless I am so low that I just shout and go for the lucozade.

i know i have so much still to learn, im allways hoping for a reading of 7 as the nurse said that is normal. so anything else just throws me.

Thanks all of you, this forum is such a big help🙂

Bet your nurse doesn't have diabetes though. Its so easy to tell someone they should be 7, but try sticking to that. We all know its impossible.

Ask your nurse to take her own reading 30 minutes after she has eaten.....it may shock her😉

I can do it at work when i have to, but put me in front of dr's nurse's etc it just disapears, so if you hv sum extra i wdnt mind sum!

I found early it is not always what you eat, but it can also be the portion size, that makes the difference.
