Hello everyone.

Just as abit of background, I've just started using FreeStyle Libre Sensors for the last six months.

Life-changing stuff. I've also started doing some exercise.

I followed a Keto diet for about six months this year.

I found the website dietdoctor.com. I'm not sure how much I believe of there site, but it is structured and easy to follow.

I loved the diet, and I love the stable energy and sugars I got from it.

Two reasons I'm still not on it are:

  • The Docs don't recommend it long term
  • I didn't have "Burst energy" for some of my fitness classes.

I did think about doing targeted Keto, but before I commit myself to that, I wondered what everyone else is doing.

Ideally, I'm after something as structured. Easy to follow and meal prep.

I've been reading up on several sites but don't know what to do.

I have been eating low carb for three years now - only good results, and I started eating low carb in my early 20s and am 68 now - if I could have avoided advice from doctors I'd never have been diagnosed as type two as eating this way completely eradicates high blood glucose spikes for me.

I have wanted to do the keto diet, but I have been strongly advised not to with diabetes ☹️

Keto will probably be what I end up doing when my fitness fad ends.
The problem with advice is that it is subjective.

All I can say is try it for a bit.
You need to do it for a while to 4 weeks plus.
At the end of the day, you have to live with it.

I'm trying to look at alternatives at the moment.

Is keto good long term probably not. Is bad sugar good any term, probably not.
I think personally for me at the moment I'm likely to have fewer health issues with Keto than bad sugar.

I'm speaking to a mix of personal trainers and diabetic nutritionists at the moment and will likely spend most of this year finding something that can give me Keto like control.
I've also found a bunch of books on Amazon. The Athletes Guide to Diabetes which I'm going to read over Xmas.
However, I would happily do Keto again.

I was warned about Keto as well. There are risks but they are manageable. Research ( Detailed ) is needed otherwise you can make yourself ill.
