Hi,

I know there are loads of diabetic diaries (record books) which are printable etc.... on the internet but i was wondering how detailed you do your comments in paper diaries, there is never enough space to write meals down. I'm asking this as i like to keep a paper diary in my handbag.

Depends how big your handbag is, one or two folks use an exercise books and add the columns they need and leave out the ones they don't.

I only comment if there is a reading that is off...........

So I would give an explanation for it, or comment on the fact its not right.....

The DAFNE diary online can accommodate more detailed comments, but dont think you cant get on yet, which is c**p.....

You could always make up your own [spreadsheet], then you can customize the available space for comments..........

I use my own paper sheet as well as on line, I cant seem to drag myself away from the paper copy, you just cant beat it really..........

I prefer to print my own table on both sides of an A4 sheet, with columns for date / day of week, time, blood glucose level, long acting insulin dose, short acting insulin dose, food, activity & other / notes. Obviously, columns that only need a number written in are much narrower than the last 3 that may need more detail. One sheet can be folded up if I'm going away for a while, or I can write in at the end of the day when I get home, whichever is more appropriate at the time.

I now get 'pump' diaries direct from Roche. They aren't available if you aren't a pumper and of course there are columns that would be of no use whatever on MDI (Hourly basal rates, TBR's, cannula changes ....)

But the rest of it would be so, so useful to anyone wanting to keep a proper record.
