Hi there, So glad to find this group. Diagnosed yesterday and just trying to get my head around things xx

Good morning @SaM64 from another late starter (diagnosed at 53)

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but pleased that you have found the forum.
A good place to tap into a wealth of practical experience.

I liken the start of this process to learning to drive. It seems complicated at the start but then much of it becomes automatic and you are just looking for any obstacles and diversions. That will seem a long way off this morning, but it does get easier.

I found the book Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas very useful. Ignore the age reference. LADA is managed in the same way as T1, it is just that we develop it more slowly than the youngsters. The book is clearly set out and regularly updated with the latest tech.

If you would like to tell us a little about how you were diagnosed and what insulins you are using it will help us to focus our answers. Any questions that arise, just ask. Nothing is considered silly on here.
I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello & Welcome to the forum. It sucks getting diagnosed with diabetes, but it looks like you want to educate and learn about your new diagnoses. If you have any questions feel free to ask away, no question is stupid.

Hi and welcome! Sorry to hear about your diabetes diagnosis and we hope you find the forum a helpful space to connect with other people living with diabetes, share your experiences and ask questions (as many as you like!)

Welcome to the forum @SaM64

Were extra checks run to help them decide it was LADA?

Had your symptoms been developing for some time, or did it come on suddenly?

Which insulins are you on? Have you had help with carb counting and dose adjustment yet?

Along with the excellent Ragnar Hanas book you might also find the Learning Zone a very helpful source of information (click the orange tab in the main menu). Many T1 members here also have found Gary Scheiner’s book Think Like a Pancreas very informative too.

And as @Poppy DUK says, ask away with any questions on the forum too. There’s nothing quite like getting a range of responses and experiences to something you are struggling with or refused by from others living with the same condition. 🙂
