Hi Nick, I've joined the diabetes club today aswell. Been put on metformin and a few other tablets. Its a bit daunting at the moment!

Hi guy's! Welcome to the forum. There are plenty of very knowledgeable folks round. Pull up a chair and make yourselves comfy :D

Thanks.will need all the help and advice I can get.I am all ears......well not all ears if you know what I mean.and no disrespect to peeps with biggish ears either..will shut up now and sit down!!

Oh Nick! Another nutter to join the fold! Whilst diabetes is a very serious business it would seem you will fit in well :D

Hi Nick and Desseardo, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but good to hear that you are both up for getting things under control. I'd recommend having a read ofJennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter for starters - both have been around for years, but have stood the test of time because they are still very valid. Also, I'd suggest getting a copy of : Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - highly recommended by many of our members. The more you know about your diabetes, the better you will be able to manage it well and reduce your risks of complications - 'well-controlled diabetes is the major cause of....absolutely nothing! 🙂

If you don't have a blood glucose meter and strips I would highly recommend getting them - have a read of Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S to find out how you can use a meter to establish your tolerances for various foods, and what adjustments you might need to make to your diet 🙂 If your nurse or doctor say you don't need to test, which many do, then you will be pretty much flying in the dark, and your 3 or 6-monthly tests won't tell you where you might be going wrong if things don't improve. It's worth funding your own if they won't give you one - the cheapest option we have come across is the SD Codefree Meter which has test strips at around £8 for 50.

Let us know if you have any questions and we will be more than happy to help 🙂
