I am due for a blood test this month, and was wondering what medication they start you on, if my level has gone up a point.

Hi there Jasmine hopefully you wont have to start on meds but if you do it may well be metformin or Gliclazide both help with high bloods. If you have been diet and exercise for over a year now you must be doing something right .I was put on them after 6 weeks .

Hi Steffie, thanks for your reply. I have heard of metformin, but feeling anxious about taking it, as I heard there are bad side affects. Have you had any?

metformin can come with a few side effects and yes i have had some, mainly nausea and on and off the toilet which is what some do get alos.. it took about 3 weeks for it all to settle for me here is a link for you with more about metformin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metformin just keep scrolling down it does list side effects on there x

Hi jasmine, welcome to the forum 🙂 What were your levels like on your last test? A lot will depend on how well you have managed to adapt your diet and lifestyle since then to help bring your levels under control. Many people are able to manage their diabetes for years without medication, so it's not necessarily going to be the case that you will need it now. I imagine that, if you have been diet and exercise controlled so far, then your levels weren't high enough at diagnosis to warrant medication so it's more likely that your situation has improved rather than declined - depending on what adjustments you have been able to make, of course!

Have you changed your diet, lost weight, been doing more exercise? All these can help to keep the meds at bay by increasing your insulin sensitivity, although sometimes it is necessary to have them if your pancreas' insulin production has declined.

Do let us know the results and how you feel about them, and please feel free to ask any questions you may have - we're here to help! 🙂

Hey there and welcome to the forum!! Good luck with your blood results!! XxXxX
