Diabetic

Hi Lisa and welcome to the forum! If you let us know a bit about yourself and your diagnosis, the users would be able to give better advice. Have you just been diagnosed? Are you on any medication?

Hi I need help with my diabetes

Post here on this thread @Lisa1973

Tell us what (if any) diabetes meds you’re on (full names, especially if you’re on insulin, as there are a number of different types). Ask whatever questions you want or state your problem(s). If you can give additional information, eg what your last HbA1C was, and/or what blood glucose numbers you’re getting if you test at home, that would be helpful.

I have been diabetic type2 for at least 15 yrs
My problem is I have NON Alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and my portal vein is enlarged having endoscopy on Tuesday to see if my varices need banding yet sorry for the A4
My consultant has changed my medication as my liver isn’t coping with all the medication I have to take
So he has stopped some and reduced my metformin to only 2 x500mg a day and I have also been started on m tirzepatide 2.5 after 4 wks increasing to 5 mg
My problem is I am watching what I am eating but my sugar levels went to 21.5 I don’t feel well blurred vision very tired pins needles tops of fingers headache stomach feels hot inside
My sugar right now is 15.4
I can’t get ketone to check urine so not sure what to do other than drinking green tea and plenty of water

Hi and welcome.

Would you like to tell us a bit about your diabetes? The more info we know about your situation, the better placed we will be to give appropriate advice.

Things like.....

How long you have been diagnosed?
What if any medication you take for your diabetes?
If you have much/any weight to lose?
What your most recent HbA1c result was..... this is the blood test used to diagnose and assess your diabetes management and is usually a number in excess of 47mmols/mol.
What if any dietary changes you have made?

There is no compulsion to answer any questions you are not comfortable about, but these are bits of information which can impact the suggestions we make. Diabetes can be surprisingly individual, so it really helps to know something about your particular circumstances.

What kind of things are you eating @Lisa1973 ? Have you reduced your carbs (all carbs, savoury and sweet)? Could you be ill? Illness can cause higher sugars, even mild illnesses sometimes.

I am eating healthy no sweets cakes biscuits only 1 rich tea no sweet bananas
No not what I am aware of
Only today eaten brown sugar free bread x2 small slices with egg around 11 am when I woke up sugar level 12.7

Have you also reduced the amount of bread, pasta, potatoes, rice and cereal you’re eating? Those are all healthy but will put your blood glucose up as much as sweet carbs.

With bread, it doesn’t matter about the sugar really as it only contains small amounts. It’s the carbs/flour in it that will put your blood sugar up.

Yes I m had very small portion of porridge oats for breakfast
Lunch time I had an cheese sandwich and orange
Dinner brown rice
With grilled chicken yesterday
Around 8 pm 1 rich tea biscuit

That all sounds healthy and moderate @Lisa1973 but I’m wondering if it’s simply too many carbs for you at the moment, especially as your meds have been changed/reduced. As an example, many Type 2s here have Greek yoghurt and a few berries and seeds for breakfast, and for lunch something like protein, salad and a couple of crispbreads is lower carb. Ordinary rice can be swapped to cauliflower rice. All these things reduce carbs.

Would my sugar levels go to 21 .becausr of the brown bread

It depends what your starting blood sugar was @Lisa1973 It’s a good idea to test before eating then around 2hrs after the start time of your meal. This shows you how your body is dealing with the foods you eat.

@Lisa1973 how long have you been on the Tirzepatite
also is what you’ve just posted that you ate yesterday
typical for you ? Because that’s quite a high carb day (I certainly wouldn’t eat that myself) I’m sure you will sort it out though

Do you know how many grams of carb that might add up to?
Oats, bread, the orange, rice and the biscuit are all things I would not eat as they are too high in carbs.
Do you have to eat some carbohydrate to counter the effects of the medication you are prescribed?

Hope you can find a way to reduce your BG levels gently and sustainably @Lisa1973

High levels like that can make you feel pretty grim.

I wonder if some of your other conditions are contributing to raising your BG levels as illness and injury can raise BG.
