A WINCHESTER marathon runner with diabetes is tackling a race Brighton to raise money for research into the disease.

Trainee teacher Anna Austin, 35, of Cathedral View, Highcliffe, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes aged two but was convinced to run the Athens marathon by a friend while working in Italy three years ago.

Since then she has gone on to run over 100 long-distance races, including two 100km ?ultra-marathons? and a 50km race up a mountain in Tuscany.

She said: ?It?s really, really difficult - while most people just have to monitor their energy levels I?ve got to do blood tests and injections and keep track of how many grams of carbohydrates I?ve taken. I was always determined that it wasn?t going to stop me doing anything.?
