Hello Caroline

If you contact Diabetes UK they will be able to tell you if there is a local group for members in your area. Some of their groups give details on the website or else you can e-mail their volunteering team. If there isn't a local group then they would also advise you on what you need to do to start one up.

Hope your blood glucose is improved and that you are feeling better

Hi Carolyn,

I moved the thread to the General message board as you may get more responses there.

Hope you can find others in your area - if I was a bit more local I'd love to travel over to the east coast! I used to love it when I was a teenager, spent a lot of time in Filey/Scarborough and Brid!🙂

As Vanessa says, I reckon DUK is the best place to start. Good luck! Hey, and I hope you don't get too many of those 1.9s!

Thanks for the info. Northerner if you want to come back to this area please contact me I'm sure I can give you a great deal and we have now been given 4 stars.

Carolyn, used to work in East Yorkshire and often came up to Bridlington in mid 80's as part of that work. Sadly mow haven't been there for a good few years.

Back to thread theme - other thought I had was whether your practice nurse might have any contacts for local interest groups too or whether there might be anything at Bridlington Hospital (assuming it is still there as it always seem to be under a threat of closure

Hi Vanessa
I have got onto diabetesuk site and awaiting reply but as for my DN i contacter her not long ago and she said she would look into it for me, fingers crossed. I am afraid Brid hospital only takes heart illnesses, diabetes is only at my doctors surgery. Scarborough is now the closest hospital thats 20 miles away so if you feel unwell due to diabetes it can take up to 40mins to get there. Not good but thats east riding council for you.

I'd love a support group nearer to me. I am not optomistic thoe. My nearest support group is Bexlyheath.

Several people approached me to start a group, and wanted me to run it, but I work full time and have a four year old. If anyone else lives in Abbey Wood and wants a group I will help with typing and advertising, but atthe moment don't feel able to take the challenge on by myself.

I used to run a group for mums, but it was left to me to organise meetings, fundraising and other events. Since none of the mums worked we could not afford to hire a hall and everyone else had good excuses for not having the groups in their homes. I was not working then, so had time to do it. This has put me off running anything.

Then I started a news letter for people with long term medical conditions. As I got no articles from anyone to put in it, it only ever was one issue.

These forums are great. It is a shame all the enthusiastic people live so far apart as I'd love to meet you!

Hi Caroline. If you feel like a trudge up the A1 or M1 to Bridlington then I would be happy to see you. M1 to watford then M25 to south mimms then A1 north. then M18 to M62 and finally A614. My husband used to live in london, not far from Arsenal football grounds, poor man he still supports them, he used to go to highbury grammar school knows london very well.
