Diabetic (I think) and my surgery didn’t even inform me.

Welcome to the forum
When you say diabetic 'I think' what was your HbA1C as that is the test that will give you your diagnosis. Having that information will determine how much work you will need to do and what dietary approach may be suitable.
Have you now been given any medication of just advised to make lifestyle changes./
