Hi All,
My name is Carolina, from the Northwest of Uk. I am new here although I have visited as a guest in the past to improve my knowledge of type 2 diabetes.
I'm posting today for advice about a diabetic ulcer on my heel that I have had for 2 year's. I see a podiatrist twice a week at the high-risk clinic to have it dressed, although I have always thought it needs dressing more often than that. Sometimes the dressing is sloppy and not applied correctly and there was problems for around 3 months when the podiatry clinic did not get either what they stock ordered or if they did it was a very small amount,so it had to be rationed amongst patients or replaced by something else.
There are several factors that I feel has led to the state the wound is in now,but basically its gone deeper and my heel bone is showing according to the podiatrist I have been seeing for two years. I am nuropathic also but am feeling the pain in and around the heel wound.I am finding it hard to walk and if I do it bleeds. I'm not getting the fluid discharge from it now but am getting bleeding.I am on antibiotics but was given them last week when the, wound wasn't as bad as it is now.
I need some advice on what I should do.
I have led a active lifestyle with family and as a carer to my husband who has terminal liver disease,so can except I have been on,my feet more than I should with a wound on a pressure point. Other than walk on my hands I have done all possible to help heal this wound.
Another point I am worried about is the podiatrist I have been seeing for 2 years, twice a week. Her attitude changed when seeing wound this week and what she is claiming went along the lines of Its gone so downhill and wont heal due to me walking on it,so I know that is what she will be saying to cover herself.
I feel very down and low

Make a VERY urgent appointment with your GP and tell him you just cannot cope on your own any more - ask him how you can possibly not walk on it when you are your husband's carer - you need help Carolina both for yourself and for caring for your husband.

Hello Carolina and welcome 🙂

I'm sorry to hear what a worrying time you are having with a non healing ulcer, as trophywench says get urgent help don't wait for things to change.

What is your blood sugar control like as that is paramount in getting the skin and tissue to start to heal and for allowing the antibiotics to do their work on the infection. I know there are means of off setting the pressure through footwear or partial casts but please do seek help urgently.

Hi Carolina, have you spoken to Socail Services? You should have had a carers assessment to explore what support you need to continue helping your husband, if you have had one then I suggest it needs reviewing. If you haven’t then you need one! I can’t imaging how fed up you must feel about this, it’s not fair that you don’t have more support :(
