Diabetic diet plus heart attack!

Hi folks.

I’ve had a bit of a week of it!

Prior to this week, I’d lowered my a1C from 72 back in August to 52 a couple of weeks ago through diet & exercise(lost nearly 2st). I was doing 6-7 miles a day walking.

Then last week I had a heart attack

I’m back home now with a stent and a shed loads of meds including metformin. They were quite adamant about that to get the sugars really down.

I’m now quite confused (and my head is still all over the place) as to how best to eat taking into account the need for a heart healthy diet - but I want to combine it with my lower carb diabetic diet which includes things like butter & cheese. Any ideas how to reconcile the two?

Anyone else had a stent who’d like to recount their experiences, in general or diabetes related, would be most welcome!

Cheers - Dunc

Oh dear sorry to hear about your heart attack and hope you are recovering.
It is difficult when you have to juggle different requirements but sticking with the low carb but making sure any fats you have are 'healthy' fats and make some substitutions for the butter and cheese with half fat or use stronger flavoured ones so you can have less.
Have they given you any dietary advise for the heart condition. Certainly some of the foods which are unwise for the heart are also not good for blood glucose management either.
Well done on reducing your HbA1C, it must have been a shock to then have a heart attack.
