A diabetic Hamilton high school teacher has been found guilty of dangerous driving causing three deaths in 2009 after experiencing seriously low levels of blood sugar.

Allan Maki, 42, will be sentenced Dec. 16.

His trial this week had already established that his driving killed an elderly man and two Burlington newlyweds. The question was whether he was responsible because he was likely in a diabetic shock at the time. The answer hinged on whether he realized before driving that he was in a danger zone and whether he took steps to reduce the danger before getting behind the wheel.

So he has caused the deaths of three people because he failed to test.
"Maki knew the risk he was taking in choosing to drive because he did not want to retest himself after taking two cookies to increase his blood sugars".
There are different but similar criteria in each state of the U.S. concerning diabetes and driving. If this is Hamilton, Texas then here are the guidelines.
