Hi
I've been a diabetic for almost 20 years.
I am currently in diabetic burnout.
I really just need some help to get myself back on track and don't know where to start.!!!
Can someone help please.
thanks Nicola

Nicola, after 20 years this does not surprise me. Be gentle on yourself.
Where do you want to begin?

Hello, have you spoke to your Diabetic team?
Diabetes can be tough but remember your the person who manages it and lives with it so you can only do your best.

Getting back into good habits. I am on insulin as well as medication. I need to start I think with blood testing. I try to do it am and pm but will quite often not do it before bed.
My blood reading this morning was 23 and I haven't taken any insulin yet or any of my medication even though I know I should.

Ok, with a reading that high 1st step would be to take your required medication. You will know having had T2D for so long that our morning readings can be higher, so your actual BG will be a little below this. Depending on your medication and how often you have skipped it your levels may need adjusting. Can you make an appointment with your Health team? They should be able to advise and help you with the pathway back to good control.

Do you feel ok physically?/Symptoms?

Just tired and fed up really. I was in a car accident a week and a half ago sustained whiplash and I've been ill with you too. This could all be a knock on effect from that.
I have taken my medication, will keep checking my BG.
Thank you.

Be a bit easy on yourself if you have been ill and had a car accident that will take its toll on you too.

Nicola definitely get in touch with you diabetic nurse team to help manage things. Lower carbs and regular exercise whatever you can manage, perhaps check out self referral to xpert programme as well.

Awww @Nicola Williams I am sure the accident may have a lot to do with increased BG. Physical trauma/psychological impact (even at levels we don't consciously acknowledge have a big impact in this area). And illness is well known for sending BG levels into flux.
Try to keep drinking lots of water and be gentle on yourself. Sleep if you don't have a lifestyle that prevents you from giving into the tiredness. Our bodies heal well in sleep and sometimes that is your body telling you to clock off.

Even if your check isn't yet due you should be able to make an appointment with the Diabetic Nurse. It will help you in ways none of us really can.

Hi @Nicola Williams , sounds like you’re having a rough time and sound thoroughly fed up. Take a moment to work out what it is you need to do, I’m absolutely sure you know as you are an old hand at this diabetes lark. Could it be that you are out of your usual routine with your meds etc having recently been in an accident?
No one is perfect and diabetes can be so fickle, especially when we are under the weather. I hope you start to feel better soon and please keep us up to date on how you are getting on and don’t forget those pesky meds as we do need them. Hugs coming through the iPad to you x
