A campaign to raise £1,500 to help a diabetic teenager from Haworth has crossed the £1,000 mark.
The appeal was launched to fund a diabetic ‘alert dog’ for 16-year-old Brooke Kirtley, who was diagnosed with type one diabetes in October.
Brooke has had to medicate herself with injections at least four times a day, and must prick a finger to test her blood anything up to 15 times a day.
A diabetic alert dog will be able to detect when Brooke’s blood sugar level is too high or low. It can then warn her to take her medication, avoiding serious organ damage.

I wonder what sort of support she has been getting if it is felt a dog is needed within 6 months of diagnosis? I would imagine she is still within honeymoon period. Nothing wrong with getting a dog of course! 🙂
