Hi AnneMarie - welcome to the Forum. With the long term complications you have you are bound to have days when you feel down - we all have days like that.

What medications are you on - and when you say bad sugar control do you mean always high or that its like a see-saw or something else. The more you tell us the more likely there will be someone who can help you.

Have a good look around and use the search facility for any subject you really want to know about.

thank you steffie my sugars have been ranging from 20 to 30 i only ever get the odd low reading which is not often i dont get any support or nothing really explained to me i feel like i have to get on with it and deal with it myself

Hi Annemarie, which hospital are you with? If you are not satisfied with the support they are giving you, ask your GP to transfer you to a different clinic.

Insulin pumps are another way of delivering insulin into the body 🙂 the pump itself is a small device about the size of a pager and insulin is sent through a tube to a cannula which sits underneath your skin. Have a google! 🙂

Hi annemarie,

Being in the 20's and 30's will give you the complications. It needs to be much lower than that! You need to demand support and if you don't receive it, complain - it's you life after all.

If you don't get any joy out of your GP, you could always try contacting the MODY team at Exeter http://projects.exeter.ac.uk/diabetesgenes/

Welcome Annemarie. You're right to be concerned about blood glucose levels in 20s and 30s. You definitely need to hassle your GP, clinic etc to get more help to get those levels nearer 4 - 7mmol/l before meals.

Hi Anne-marie, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear of the problems that you have been having, and very sorry to hear about your Mum too :( As the others have said, and you know yourself, you need to really take this by the scruff of the neck and get your blood sugar levels under better control. If you have been diagnosed for 10 years and already developed complications, it sounds as though your healthcare team are failing you. I'd recommend you make an appointment to see them as soon as you can and talk through your options. Are you on insulin or tablets? Whatever medication you are on it is clearly not working sufficiently for you - your levels should be at the most half of what they currently are. What about meals and testing? Do you test before and after meals to find out how the food has affected you?

Please ask anything that you are not sure about and we will do our best to help you - nothing is considered silly! We want to do all we can to help you get your levels down and feeling much, much better! 🙂

Hi Annemarie. Welcome🙂

It does sound like you've got yourself into a dark corner and need some help to get out.

Just to add a couple more questions.

Are you finding it hard to take your meds and/or stick to healthy eating ?

If this is the case, have you been offered any help to get you into the right frame of mind ?

We're a varied bunch who between us have been through pretty much everything.

Rob

Welcome to the forum AnneMarie 🙂

So sorry to hear about your Mum and your D complications :( hopefully you can find another team nearby that can provide you with more support and help get your sugar levels down xx

Hey! Welcome to the forum.

I'm possibly a mody-3 too, so I understand about the lack of info. Because my HbA1c is normal they regard me as all fine - when really i'm far from that a lot of the time! I have pretty unstable but relatively okay levels, and i'm diet controlled. In fact i've never really told the GP that, though other issues mean I can't eat a lot of 'bad' foods anyhow.

I hope you get a lot out of this forum! And I hope you manage to overcome your diabetes 🙂

Welcome to the forum Anne-Marie.

I think the others have said what I wanted to say, so I won't repeat it.

I really hope that you can get the support that you clearly need from your medical team (be it old or new).

Andy 🙂

Hi and welcome.

Can I suggest you get in touch with your diabetes team/doctor and find a way of getting your numbers down?

Don't forget if you don't like the first opinion you get you are entitled to get a second opinion.

Hi annemarie and welcome from me too 🙂

Crikey, you've got a lot on your plate at the mo, haven't you? Desperately sorry to hear about your mum and your other complications :(

You clearly understand that you need to get your BG's down, but don't set yourself impossible targets - if you don't meet them, you'll only feel worse for it anyway.

Like most things in life, you need to tackle this in bite-size chunks; not only will this give you realistic goals to aim for, but you can get a lot of satisfaction with each successful step. Satisfaction should also bring with it increased desire to improve things.

Good luck and don't give up on yourself - you got us lot, now, with you all the way, although I appreciate that this could be a scary thought, when you consider the likes of ChatteryMiss, klucky et al 😱

Dear annemarie,

I've only just noticed this, I don't visit this forum as often as I used to. I'm so sorry that you have had such a torrid time regarding diabetes with you and your familiy. I'm going to make a suggestion that no-one else has explicitly posted on. Why not considerer carbohydrate restriction? The science clearly shows that if you control your carbs in an orderly way (left click on the following) as shown here, you can achieve excellent results. This does not mean that you have to give up on your meds or completely on carbs. Why not talk to your health care team?

Regards Dodger
