Welcome to the forum
It is often a shock to receive a diabetes diagnosis but it sometimes is a relief as it explains symptoms that you may have had. It is a very manageable condition that is most people can be achieved by making some lifestyle changes. As you say you need to lose weight that is something that will be helpful in reducing blood glucose.
Have a look at this link as it is a low carb approach which was designed by a GP surgery to help their patients who have been diagnosed and many have found it a successful way to both lose weight and reduce blood glucose. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
The threshold for diagnosis is 47mmol/mol so you are not too far up the ladder so by making some changes reducing your HbA1C should be doable but you do need to make those changes.
The Learning Zone (orange tab at the top) also has good info and links to other resources.

Welcome @sova 🙂 A diabetes diagnosis is always a shock, but hopefully you’ll feel better once you get a handle on things. The good news is your HbA1C isn’t horribly high so with some small, sustained changes you should be able to improve things.

Welcome to the forum @sova

Glad you have found us 🙂

Feeling scared and a little overwhelmed with a diagnosis is very common, but try not to let your imagination run away with you. Diabetes is a serious condition, but it’s also one that can usually be managed well with a few changes and adaptations - it’s something that you can learn to live well with, and it shouldn’t stop you doing things you enjoy. Try not to be disheartened about your diagnosis, many people on the forum later reflect that their diagnosis became a sort of catalyst which prompted them to make positive changes towards a healthier and more active life. Perhaps changes that they had been intending to make for years, but never quite got around to.

Many on the forum say they feel fitter and healthier than they have for years! Plus the regular checks you get after a diagnosis with diabetes mean that any potential problems may be spotted earlier, and can be sorted out sooner.

You might like to check out the Learning Zone (the orange tab in the main menu) which has lots of bite-sized modules to help get you off to a good start 🙂
