EDITOR'S NOTE: With 2 children diagnosed, the Tracy family's Kevin and Kieran Crew will participate for the seventh year on Sunday in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Here is the Oakwood family's story in their own words.
TAWN TRACY
My son Kieran was diagnosed nine years ago at the age of 9 1/2. I can remember the day he was diagnosed like it was yesterday. When I got the call from the doctor's office, I looked out the window and could see this little boy out helping to deliver the Advance, and I wondered how I would tell him that his life would never be the same again.
I knew little of Type 1, but that was all about to change. Within 24 hours my husband and I became nurses, dieticians, and mathematicians.
