Morning!

We've released a demo of our first iPhone app. The app will be able to do more than shown here, but we?d really like to hear what you think of these first few screens.

There are two ways to view the demo:

PDF: http://bit.ly/hq89Of
Video tour: http://bit.ly/hLsPHR

If you've got any comments or questions, let me know here or email:

diabetesuk@publiczone.co.uk

(We've had quite a few questions already about the app being on other operating systems - the answer to this is we're going for Apple first as from those who already access our information from their mobiles, the majority use Apple products. If it's successful, we'll be looking at other versions!)

Look forward to reading your comments!

Does the insulin increment only go up in 0.5u? I know this will be fine for most people injecting, but obviously with a pump you can get much smaller increments and therefore that bit of data would be incorrect most of the time?

Think this is just how it's been worked out at the moment, but you're right, it'd make sense to allow for smaller increments too. Thanks Shiv!

Only had a quick look, but for me the line-graphing of insulin doses is a bit odd.

If it is showing over time, then some indication of the doses profile/activity/onset/peak/decay would be excellent (though with all the variations involved I realise this is impossible). A straight line graph between x unit breakfast bolus and y unit lunch bolus is meaningless to me though.

It looks very good, however a few things based on other App's I have.

Please can it work for those of us using the iPod Touch for older hardware versions too and not using the latest iOS version. Apple has a bad tendency to brick iPods/iPhones on updates (75% risk by my experience).

A couple of my other apps can't cope with the fact some days I'll do a single blood sugar measurement, others I might do three. It looks like your graphing should do that, but it looks very silly when I enter two 7.x measurements and the graph shows a 4.x (diabetes buddy!)

It should work when you have no internet connection.

Send recorded data via email for archiving purposes (csv?)

DAFNE also have an iphone app out as well ,been going for good few months too, the functions are most likely very similar with different graphs displayed.

I agree with mike in terms of the straight line between meals etc........but its only a really a nice visual interpretation of whats going on and doesn't really change anything.......

Well done anyway, let the big fixes commence...........

I'd been using the DAFNE app as well since around July or august I think. I'd say it's by far the best I've seen so far in that it's plain and simple to understand. Others, with all the fancy features were good but not every doctor and nurse could make them out as quick. Obviously some of the nurses I see are involved with DAFNE so that in itself helped.

I got quite involved batting a few ideas around on the daffers site as well which I enjoyed and probably makes it seem even better to me seeing a few of my own suggestions integrated.

Unfortunately, like the DAFNE course itself, it's aimed at pen users and having switched back to a pump late last year, it lacks a lot of what I need to log and I'm back to pen and paper and transferring to spread-flaming-sheets which I absolutely hate. Especially with my eyes!

It has a carb list built in as well and I still use that now and then. Logs are listed online so you can send a link to the DSN. Two things amongst others that may well be worth thinking of having a dabble at.

Look forward to giving it a whirl. Ta very much for efforts. I know it's no easy task!

Just had a proper look now I'm back at a decent screen... Certainly looks the part.

I just thought I'd add the link to the thread on DAFNE Online's forum where their app is discussed. Might be useful to cross reference for both parties.

Adding to what Shiv said, i think it should have a number pad for entering insulin amounts instead of a dial. That way you can enter whatever amount you want with a decimal point and it won't take forever if you have large insulin amounts. Imagine having to scroll to 30u if it had 0.1 increments 😛

DiabetesDiary has that sort of dial/keypad dual entry method. Works a treat!

The one thing that I noticed the other day is that my current App only lets my enter exercise in 15 minute intervals - which is fine if I'm doing a structured session. But isn't very good to logging my pedometer daily cumulative readings!

By nice if we could customise the units and type of exercise for the proposed DUK app.

Mg/dl measurement?

The app looks great so far but I wonder if it will be possible to switch the blood sugar readings to mg/dL (milligrams per decilitre)? I live in France and in my medical centre we use this instead of mmol/L.

Thanks!

This sounds great. Would it be able to average sugar levels for different times of the day over say, a week?
Some sort of bar graph with average levels before breakfast, 1 or 2 hrs after breakfast, before lunch etc over a week or a month would really help me to see overall trends 🙂

I wonder if there is any update on this?

Looks quite good, if maybe too detailed for me (T2) but if the options are right then only what is needed for each individual will be there so OK

One Q regardign the calories and carb charts - will this link up with food or will you need to work that out for yourself and put the data in - eg I use MyFitnessPal as a sort of guide for calories/fat/etc as it has a good database and is easy to add fodds too. If the app will have that sor tof facility then keep going and let me know when it is available.

Thanks for the efforts
Malc
