A UTTOXETER exams officer swam through the night, braving jellyfish, tankers and huge tidal surges to cross the English Channel in aid of Diabetes UK.
Simon Barber, of Netherfield Close, has only been training since January, and was part of a six-strong team dubbed the 'Seals of Approval' which completed the epic feat.
The swimmer, who undertook the feat without a wet suit, raised almost £2,500 for his charity.
Mr Barber is no stranger to extreme events, having already run 25 marathons, but this was his greatest athletic test so far.
