Diabetes type 2

Initially, after first being diagnosed, I’d check before and after every meal and before bed, but now that I have a “list” of foods that I know I can handle, I now just test new foods and also occasionally before and after a meal, just to check that things are still okay. I’ll also check if I’m particularly hungry, to see what the reading is, out of curiosity.

For some reason, for the last week or so, I feel really hungry, even after I’ve not long had a meal.

I've just started testing mine and I do first thing, before each meal and then two hours after each meal. If there's a decent time gap between the last test and bedtime I check bedtime too. Not sure if it's overkill but it's helping me get a grip on numbers. I don't tend to snack much but if I do I don't check (test strips are expensive! Plus if I snack it's something I've already checked I can tolerate okay). I'm currently going through a list of things I've written down on my phone to check how well I can handle them like @Lucylemonpip has done and then hopefully I can start to scale back how often I check.

ETA: when I say "just started", it's been just under a month for me

How often do you check your sugar levels
I test every morning on waking and then usually at least twice during the day. Currently I’ve upped my testing regime to be much more rigorous so I’m testing:
Waking
Before each meal
90 minutes after starting each meal
Before bed

I’m also testing at random points throughout the day if I feel like it.

Yes I’m testing a lot but that’s because I’m on a very low calorie diet right now (800 calories a day) and I want to know what’s going on with my BG at all times.

What BG monitor do you have?
How are you finding testing?
Do you use an app to log your results?
