Type 2
Hello everyone my mother has just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so just getting our heads round things she can and can not do, how this will effect her day to day life, if at all.🙂

Hi Urmila, welcome to the forum 🙂 Although it is a serious condition, if well-controlled diabetes does not have to stop your mother from doing anything she wants to. Some things might need a bit more planning, and there may be some modifications to diet, but often this is a good thing - the diet does not have to be restrictive, and a diet which is healthy for people with diabetes is one which is healthy for everyone! Regular, daily exercise is very beneficial.

I would suggest reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and getting a copy of the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. These will all give you and her a good grounding in what it is all about, what to expect, and how to deal with things.

Has your mother been given any medication for her diabetes?
