Who bothers to read %ages on the packets when in order to calculate how much insulin we need to counterract it, we need to know precisely how many grams of carb are in it? Are you saying those numbers are rubbish and just educated guesses too? So are the algorithms within insulin pumps which calculate the dose having taken into account the IOB just anybody's guess as well?
I think @Docb was saying the nutritional values are more "ish" than rubbish - just as the readings from our meters are "ish", and not accurate to the 1 dp suggested by the readings.

Dunno the answers to your questions TW. Just commenting on what I found out when reading around the subject through the eyes of a T2 who stopped when he got to a point where he had found a way forward that suited him.

My basic observation, that carbohydrate contents on packaging are perhaps not as precise as implied by the way the numbers are quoted I think still holds. Maybe if I looked further I might have found whether acceptable error levels are specified but in any case, where estimates rather than direct measurements have been used I am sure they were done those in a position to make those estimates.

Just making my usual plea. When chucking numbers about it is a good idea to look at where they have come from and to have an eye on the level of confidence in them when using the numbers to determine a course of action.
