Hi there.

Just need a little help please? I am due to go and see family members this weekend coming to do my Santa bit, but unfortunately two members of the family have gone down with chicken pox. I am concerned that with my type 2 I may be more susceptible to chicken pox/shingles and so am wondering if I should cancel my trip. I have never had chicken pox and am 51 years old. All help gratefully received! Thank you.

some people are naturally immune to chicken pox, me being one of them, how long have they had chicken pox? if they are passed the infectious stage then it shouldn't be a problem anyway but if you've been around people with chicken pox before and never got them then I'd say the chances are you are one of those immune to it xx

Thank you. They were diagnosed this morning and I am due to go and see them this Saturday. I've never really been near anyone with chicken pox and so really don't know if I'm immune or not.

generally they aren't infectious anymore when the blisters have dried up so usually 5-7 days but it depends how long its taken for them to see a doctor since the blisters appeared, you could just wait and see how they are when your due to visit unless that isn't possible? just explain to them that you may need to cancel if they still aren't healing as your concerned about catching them? xx
