Diabetes treatment could be dictated by calcium

I think there will come a day when all treatments are individually tailored. I always remember a Cardiologist talking on the radio who, although he did not have high blood pressure, started taking some BP medications as he did not believe some of his patients who said they were getting horrendous side effects. After a few days, he realised that it was not all in the mind, he too was experiencing some pretty nasty side effects, He became more amenable to trying out different meds if the patient complained of side effects.

I think things become far too oversimplified sometimes, and forget that we are incredibly complex and diversified in the way our systems work (not helped by the highly overstated and poorly reported media reports!). Some of these drugs are very powerful, and though they may only affect a tiny number in a test adversely, that can be thousands of people when a drug becomes widespread. But I guess as it remains statistically 'insignificant', some HCPs see it as highly unlikely when a patient reports something.
