Less than half of patients with diabetes are achieving blood pressure targets, according to a national audit published today.

The National Diabetes Audit 2011-2012 found that over 1.2 million patients with diabetes in England and Wales had not met the blood pressure target of less than 140/80 out of the 2.3 million patients whose blood pressure was recorded.

However, the percentage of patients achieving the target was slightly higher than the previous year.

The audit also shows wide variation in achieving the blood pressure target between clinical commissioning groups and local health boards.
