I was diagnosed a couple of months ago I have seen the diabetic nurse but l am still waiting for my diabetic eye screening anyone know how long I have to wait for appointment.

In the current lockdown I think you might have to wait for a bit, @lisab1971. My annual screening was due in September, and when I phoned to check the very apologetic lady said that, as my results had previously been normal, they would contact me next year, as they were only seeing urgent cases. Do you know what your HbA1c is?

I was diagnosed, 6 years ago, it was something like 4-5 months before I had the eye screening. Mine was delayed this year, by several months, and I'm guessing there'll be a backlog.

Your local screening service should have a website, if you Google Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service , it should give you your local one. Then you could ring the contact number, at the moment newly diagnosed are being treated as a priority group in most places.

Are people still attending the Retinal Screening during lockdown? I’ve just received an invitation to make an appt this morning. I didn’t think it was even due and am pretty reluctant to attend being in the very clinically vulnerable group (not diabetic related).
I’m impressed but surprised they’re still doing them as some specialisms seem to have all but closed up shop if my experience is anything to go by.
I‘ve also recently had cataract surgery on both eyes so my eyes have been well and truly screened.

I've had mine. Though I had to use the buildings back entrance, which I think is usually just for staff.

I had mine cancelled in April, did not think it would go ahead when I received the appointment in March. As I have had no sign of Retinopathy in the past mine will not be till next year. There was already talk at those considered low risk, being reduced to ever 2 years.

Hiya @lisab1971 - where do you live then as your HbA1C is being quoted as a percentage? USA?

As far as I am aware it was stalled initially, but they are trying to get things moving again, beginning with people who have some degree of eye trouble.

A maximum of 2 years between eye screening appointments is allowed.

Hope you get an appointment within the next year or two @lisab1971 🙂

I have an appointment this week 6 months later than the normal schedule, at a place I don't think has been on the list before.
