If you're interested in being involved in diabetes research, you may like to look at the Diabetes Research Network website: http://www.ukdrn.org/patients.html or http://www.diabetesresearchnetworking.org for videos of people who have taken part in trials.
DRN is part of the National Institute for Health Research and the UK Clinical Research Network. If you choose to register, then make sure you register with England / Scotland / Wales / Northern Ireland, depending on where you live.

Thanks Copepod :D:D I'll have a proper look later

I registered with them a while ago, but haven't heard from them since.

Maybe theres no research in my area at the moment.

Thanks copepod, I have done some research before and am just trying to find a good time for myself, my brother and the research nurse to have an appointment to give away some more blood for research

Thanks for that link, I've just signed up. I used to do asthma studies which I used to generally enjoy. Apart from getting a complete health MOT, I found out a lot about the condition, how to manage it and what medications worked really well for me. The downsides were sometimes getting a lower dose or a placebo and having to go back to my normal meds after the trial (I was once on a great drug that made me feel "normal" for 3 months - sadly, my PCT said it was too expensive).

I know there was some bad press not so long ago when a clinical trial went badly wrong but they're generally pretty safe and worth it if it means there might be better meds or even a cure at some time in the future.
