Diabetes Mellitus risk factors are less likely to occur in teenagers who eat plenty of foods high in fiber, according to new research.
Researchers analyzed data from more than 2,000 teens aged 12-19 and found that those who ate more fiber-rich foods, like vegetables and whole grains, were less likely to have risk factors for heart disease and diabetes. However, the amount of cholesterol and saturated fat they consumed was not related to their risks for either condition. Even so, teens should not take this as a sign that they can eat as much fatty foods as they want.
